Celebrating our 2021 Scholars

KIPP Philadelphia Public Schools is proud to announce and celebrate two seniors who received prestigious scholarships from the KIPP Foundation and community partners. We are so proud of the Class of 2021, they continue to persevere and grow during these unprecedented times.

In partnership with the Sheryl Sandberg & Dave Goldberg Family Foundation, KIPP will selects 15 KIPP graduates each year to join the scholarship program as Goldberg Scholars. Elijah Pompey, KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy Class of 2021, was awarded the Goldberg Scholarship and will be attending the University of Pennsylvania. During high school, Elijah volunteered to file other people’s taxes through the VITA program, taught math and English to young children, and volunteered as a “Town Crier” at City Hall. Elijah was also an active member of the robotics club and student government. He wants to follow the footsteps of his father who loved to draw and passed away two years ago.

Goldberg Scholars will receive:

  • Stipends for critical expenses outside of tuition and room & board that are necessary for a successful college career.
  • A Goldberg Mentor who will provide advice and ongoing support throughout the duration of the scholarship.
  • Support from the Goldberg Connectors, a network of professionals who will help students secure summer internships and job opportunities.
  • An invitation to attend a leadership weekend to engage in professional development, build skills, and connect with other Goldberg Scholars, mentors, and industry influencers.

15 outstanding KIPP graduates are also selected to join the Amplify Scholars Program. Through that scholarship, the organization iMentor works closely with KIPP Through College staff to ensure scholars are building the knowledge and skills to thrive in college and beyond. Tah’Diyah Jackson, KIPP DuBois Collegiate Academy Class of 2021, was awarded the Amplify Scholarship and will be attending Lincoln University of Pennsylvania. She is most passionate about going to college to train for a career in the criminal justice field. Tah’Diyah became interested in the criminal justice system when watching a documentary about the Central Park Five. She became determined to dedicate her career to reforming the justice system by advocating for the equitable treatment of Black Americans going through this system.
